Haggler’s Corner presents…

…Like it never went away!

On October 18th Broomhill and Sharrow Vale Labour Party Branch promotes ‘Disco is back’, 11 hours of glorious dance music upstairs and downstairs in Haggler’s Corner. Disco is back celebrates the dance music that defined the 1970’s, with the cream of Sheffield’s disco djs, including five women, in aid of three local charities which support asylum seekers.

The start of disco, following the Stonewall riots in 1969, brought in a new liberating high energy dance movement, led by djs mixing tracks for the first time, to keep the dance flowing, while independent record labels and radio stations made the music available to the wider public. People no longer dance in couples, it was a crowd phenomenon, the energy of the music underpinned by dancers from everyday life who were marginalised and faced daily discrimination.

Disco is back will feature the best of the music from those years (not the dross that came out once the big labels got hold of it).
